Virginia Tech Band Director Institute and Conducting Workshop in Blacksburg, Virginia

Date: June 21st, 2016

Their goal is to offer a variety of opportunities that address the dual roles of conductor and educator in order to provide a growth experience for anyone interested in the art of teaching and conducting. Sessions will cover a wide range of topics including gesture, repertoire and programming, score interpretation, rehearsal techniques, large ensemble pedagogy, and program development.

Joining this summer is Prof. Scott Teeple (University of Wisconsin–Madison) and Mr. Alfred Watkins (former Director of Bands at Lassiter High School).

There are twenty spots available for conducting participants ($300) and an unlimited number of spots for non-conducting participants ($150).

They are also offering a limited number of fellowships for outstanding senior or graduate music education majors nominated by their college band directors. Fellowship recipients will attend at a reduced rate of only $125, participate in all sessions and activities, and take part in discussions and conducting activities specifically tailored for beginning teachers. Please encourage any talented music education students who might benefit from this experience to apply!
