The 14th Annual Yamaha International Seminar for Bands will be held at the Colegio Agustiniano - Salitre in Bogotá, Colombia from the 4th to the 6th of June, 2008. The event is sponsored annually by Yamaha Music Latin America, S.A. in Central and South America and the Caribbean to improve the quality of performance and literature of bands, and support the wind band directors and composers of the regions to improve the musical and social growth. The seminar theme: Composition With Position. The 6th Annual Jungfrau Music Festival will be held in Interlaken, Switzerland from the 4th to the 12th of July, 2008. The Gala Programme includes performances by the University of Texas Wind Ensemble, Swiss Army Concert Band and the QuaDrums Percussion Ensemble. The 18th Biennial Conference of the International Society for the Promotion and Research of Wind Music (IGEB) will be held at the Cultural Center in Echternach in the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg from the 10th to the 15th of July, 2008. The conference will take place with the collaboration of the Luxembourg Music Federation Union Grand-Duc Adolphe and the municipality of Echternach. IGEB will be one of the first associations organizing its conference in the new cultural centre, which will be inaugurated in December 2007. This event joins musicology and musical performance. The 3rd Biennial Concorso Bandistico Internazionale "Vallée d'Aoste" will be held in Saint-Vincent, Italy on the 18th and 19th of October, 2008. The contest is open to non-professional wind and brass bands from all countries. Wind bands may compete in the following categories: Excellence, 1st Category, 2nd Category, 3rd Category, and brass bands may compete in the categories Excellence and 1st Category. Bands are required to perform one compulsory work and one composition of their choice. Cash prizes ranging from €1,500 to €4,000 are being offered. A travel refund in the amount of €2,000 will be given to the first five non-Italian bands enrolling in the competition and traveling a distance greater than 400 km from Saint-Vincent. The registration deadline is Thursday, July 31, 2008. For more information:

The 37th Annual Certamen Internacional de Bandes de Música Vila d’Altea will take place on the 29th and 30th of November, 2008 at the Palau Altea Centre d’Arts in Altea, Spain. The contest is open to non-professional symphonic bands, which may compete in one of two categories: bands of 85 players or less, and bands of between 85 and 130 musicians. The test piece for bands of 85 player of less is Poema Polar (Joan Enric Canet). The test piece for bands of more than 85 players is Destructa Climáatica (Rafael Talens Pelló).
