Winners of the Thelen Prize for 2012

IGEB, the International Society for the Promotion and Research of Wind Music, is proud to announce the winners of the Thelen Prize for 2012. The prize, awarded biennially, memorializes Fritz Thelen, one of IGEBs cofounders. It will be presented at the conference in Coimbra, Portugal, between July 12 and 17, 2012.

The 2012 Screening Committee (Wolfgang Suppan (Pürgg, Austria), Raoul Camus (New York, USA), Hellmut Mahling (Mainz, Germany)) and the 2012 Selection Committee (Klaus Aringer (Graz, Austria), Robert Grechesky (Indianapolis, USA), Francis Pieters (Kortrijk, Belgium) choose the following outstanding dissertations in the field of wind music research:

Peter HECKL, PhD.

Three Icons DVD Set Available

The DVDs chronicling the work of the "Three Icons" at the 2009 WASBE Conference in Cincinnati is now available for sale. The 3-DVD set features Frank Battisti, Donald Hunsberger and Robert Reynolds working with the WASBE International Youth Wind Orchestra to perform Band masterworks from Holst, Grainger and Hindemith. Those who attended the Midwest Clinic in Chicago were the first to see the DVD (in the WASBE booth). It is published by GIA. Stock is currently available through Shattinger Music.

The December 2011 issue of WASBE World magazine features articles related to the next WASBE Conference in Valencia, Spain, as well as two "Focus on Repertoire" articles: The final installment of The Matthew George-serial and an interesting article about "lady composers" by Francis Pieters. We are also focusing on "Masterworks for Band", a new series by Tim Reynish and we focus on education by a selection of events from South America.
